Take a sneak peak into Horseshoe Bend Primary School (interim name), a new Victorian Government school is on Wadawurrung Country, nestled between Djilang/Geelong and Doonmarnwaring/Torquay. The site features five buildings, a staff car park, a sports field, two external hard courts, and a landscaped environment. Law Architects were proud to participate in the recent official opening of the new Monash Community Family Cooperative childcare centre, opened by the Hon. @harrietshingmlc, Victorian State MP, and Monash University Vice-Chancellor Professor Sharon Pickering. The team took a creative approach to the design of a multi-storey childcare, transforming a steep site into an opportunity for connected outdoor play that flows between both levels, physically and visually, providing all activity rooms with equal access to nature play. Through close collaboration with the existing centre staff, the strong connection between indoor and outdoor was translated from the old to the new building. Internally, this integral connection between levels is similarly paramount, with provision of a child-friendly central staircase that engages the development of children’s gross motor skills, confidence and independence. Carefully crafted nooks located along the journey from entry to playroom delight the children as they move through their day. The innovative external play space is ripe for exploration and creative play, and supports the development of children’s risk assessment, decision making and emotional resilience. The Law team were thrilled to show @institute_architects_aus awards jurors around the shortlisted Nozomi Learning Building at St Kilda Primary School, on Bunurong Country. The staff and students were delighted to share their dynamic learning areas, which seamlessly integrate with inclusive, immersive outdoor gathering and flourishing nature play spaces thriving with local biodiversity. Half way through National Reconciliation Week 2025 and Law are reflecting on how we continue to learn about and contribute to achieving reconciliation. - a group of us are excited to take part in the Yoorrook Justice Commission Walk for Truth next month. - we look forward to undertaking Building Aboriginal Cultural Competency For Organisations at the Koorie Heritage Trust to further develop our skills in Cultural Consultation. - we continue to implement and develop our Reconciliation Action Plan within our practice. - at the start of National Reconciliation Week we reflected as a team on our 2024’s Workplace RAP Barometer results and endeavour to continue to listen deeply and grow our knowledge about Country. @reconciliationaus #rap #reconciliation #nrw2025 #bridgingnowtonext
A few weeks ago, we shared a fly-through animation of the @avila_college St Teresa Library & Research Centre. Over the next nine months we will be sharing this project coming to life on-site. Located at the heart of the school, it will serve as a dynamic hub for learning, collaboration, and research. This state-of-the-art facility will provide students with access to cutting-edge digital technologies in a modern and inspiring environment. This project is mass timber construction, and over the past few weeks, there has been significant progress - transforming from a concrete slab on ground to nearly all of the Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glue Laminated Timber (GLT) being installed and the building taking shape. Making All Things New. Construction is nearing completion on the second phase of our extension and renovation to St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Box Hill South. The original, heritage listed church by Chancellor & Patrick, was meticulously re-furbished by Law Architects in 2020 in the first phase of the project.  More recently, we have worked to nestle in new offices, meeting rooms, and gathering spaces around the existing building. Through a minimal intervention approach, the project builds on the forms and materiality of the existing church, creating a new whole and reframing connections to the street. St Kilda Primary School has been shortlisted in the 2025 AIA Victorian Architecture Awards for Educational Architecture! The new ‘Nozomi’ building at St Kilda Primary School is a biophilic, two-storey learning hub, designed to foster joy, curiosity and a strong sense of place. The interactive east façade—featuring a lush green wall, slide, mini playhouses, and a sandpit—creates an engaging environment where learning and play are intertwined. OPENING - Term 1 marked the official opening of @clceltham Aikenhead Centre, the result of a collaboration that began in 2019 with a new masterplan by Law Architects. We are thrilled to announce that on Wednesday at the Victorian School Design Awards, St Kilda Primary School’s New Learning Building & Refurbishment was awarded the Overall Winner for the category ‘Best School Project- between $5 million and $15 million’. Congratulations to the team and a big thank you to everyone involved in this collaborative project! St Kilda Primary School’s new two-storey learning building called the ‘Nozomi’ building, named after the Japanese word for “hope”, is located on Bunurong Country. It features open-plan learning areas organized into clusters, offering a modern alternative to traditional classrooms more typically associated with the heritage listed Main school building. The new building takes its architectural cues and massing from the heritage building and nearby St Kilda Town Hall incorporating double-height covered deck & a slide, wrapped in extensive green walls. Connection to the natural environment is one of the most consistently requested things that schools talk about in our design workshops. Not all learning spaces can be outdoors, but where possible we aim to embrace biophilic design principles and blur the boundaries between buildings and landscape.
