Connection to landscape was a key driver in the curation of interiors in the Aikenhead Centre at Catholic Ladies’ College (CLC). The spaces intrinsically reflect the flora and fauna native to Eltham, situated on Wurundjeri Country. Through natural colour and material palettes, thoughtfully framed outlooks and considered blurring of indoor and outdoor boundaries, the design prioritises the wellbeing of staff and students.

Through our collaboration with Catholic Ladies’ College (CLC) Eltham, we are proud to share the completion of the Aikenhead Centre, a contemporary learning environment that honours the legacy of Mary Aikenhead and her spirit of ingenuity.
This three-storey addition extends an existing building, with a light-filled gallery linking new and old. Inside are flexible Visual Communication studios and Year 9 learning areas, designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and leadership.
Nestled amongst the gum tree canopy, the Aikenhead Centre embraces the College’s most valuable asset, its landscape; creating a place where learning is deeply connected to both community and Country.

This week saw a milestone moment at Worawa Aboriginal College as we celebrated the sod turn for the new boarding house.
This project has been years in the making, shaped through deep collaboration, respect, and shared vision. Standing on Wurundjeri Country, Elder in Residence Dr Lois Peeler performed a smoking ceremony and Principal Tanya Peeler reflected on the College’s continuing journey, before officially breaking ground with the Board Chair Tom Bell.
The day was filled with reflection and positivity for the future of Worawa students. A heartfelt thank you to the College leaders, staff, students, collaborators and builders, whose dedication has brought us to this point.
We are honoured to walk alongside Worawa on this journey, and can’t wait to see this new chapter come to life.

Last week marked the official opening of the new gymnasium and learning spaces at Westgarth Primary School, the culmination of a journey that’s included years of advocating, design, delivery and collaboration.
On the day we joined the school principal, Jo Wheeler and assistant principal, Caroline Shiels along with special guests, Victorian Premier Jacinta Allen, Federal MP Ged Kearney and Local MP Kat Theophanous being proudly led through the spaces by the grade five captains.
The day was a celebration of the new facility, the positive addition it brings to the local community and recognising the collective efforts that made this project a reality.

It was such a pleasure to attend a fabulous opening yesterday for ‘Harmony Hall’ at North-Eastern Montessori School in St Helena.
On a tight budget, this deceptively hard working building achieves a calm synergy with its place. Through efficient spatial planning, careful acoustic treatment, a warm, tactile material palette and strategic moments of joy, ‘Harmony Hall’ certainly lives up to its name.

Exciting developments are unfolding for the Mt Atkinson community in Melbourne’s west. This greenfield site holds the cornerstone of the expanding suburb, where a new Catholic Primary School and Children’s Hub is coming to life.
The Administration and Early Learning Centre, and Learning Building are taking shape as structural steel assembly comes to a close, and roof ‘pop-ups’ emerge, inviting daylight to internal spaces. Existing gum trees hold space for the planned landscape proposal, embedding the buildings in immersive nature play opportunities.

Law Architects proudly contributed to the new Monash Community Family Cooperative childcare centre, officially opened by Hon. @harrietshingmlc and Monash University Vice-Chancellor Professor Sharon Pickering.
The multi-storey design transformed a steep site into a connected outdoor play space across both levels, ensuring all rooms have equal access to nature. A child-friendly central staircase links the levels, supporting motor skill development and independence. Thoughtfully designed nooks and engaging play areas encourage exploration, creativity, and emotional resilience. The project reflects close collaboration with centre staff, carrying forward the indoor-outdoor connection from the previous building into this innovative new space.

See you this evening at the 2025 Victorian Architecture Awards Night celebration!
Congratulations to all of this year’s shortlisted projects.
A few weeks ago, we shared a fly-through animation of the @avila_college St Teresa Library & Research Centre. Over the next nine months we will be sharing this project coming to life on-site.
Located at the heart of the school, it will serve as a dynamic hub for learning, collaboration, and research. This state-of-the-art facility will provide students with access to cutting-edge digital technologies in a modern and inspiring environment.
This project is mass timber construction, and over the past few weeks, there has been significant progress - transforming from a concrete slab on ground to nearly all of the Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Glue Laminated Timber (GLT) being installed and the building taking shape. It’s truly stunning on-site, and the aroma of fresh timber is just as remarkable.

Making All Things New.
Construction is nearing completion on the second phase of our extension and renovation to St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Box Hill South. The original, heritage listed church by Chancellor & Patrick, was meticulously re-furbished by Law Architects in 2020 in the first phase of the project.
More recently, we have worked to nestle in new offices, meeting rooms, and gathering spaces around the existing building. Through a minimal intervention approach, the project builds on the forms and materiality of the existing church, creating a new whole and reframing connections to the street.

What a week!
Huge thanks to @le_australasia and all the chapters keeping the energy alive and ideas flowing. We’re heading home inspired — and up for the challenge to keep progressing and evolving the places where learning happens.
We’re incredibly proud to have received the LEAD New Building/s or Facility–Small Award for our work on St Kilda Primary School. This win reminds us that bold ideas and thoughtful design matter more than big budgets.
Shout out to our fellow Victorian peers — your passion, debates, and generosity in sharing lift us all. And a special nod to Nicole Kirby for her powerful work on the @lea_mayfield2025 — we can’t wait to see what’s
next.
We’re reflecting on:
- Balancing tech and human connection in schools
- Designing for every student’s unique needs
- How small actions can spark lasting change
At Law Architects, we believe great design starts with bold thinking and people-first principles. Let’s keep the conversation going.

St Kilda Primary School has been shortlisted in the 2025 AIA Victorian Architecture Awards for Educational Architecture!
The new ‘Nozomi’ building at St Kilda Primary School is a biophilic, two-storey learning hub, designed to foster joy, curiosity and a strong sense of place. The interactive east façade—featuring a lush green wall, slide, mini playhouses, and a sandpit—creates an engaging environment where learning and play are intertwined.

It often takes some time for the vision for a project to mature, as evidenced by the native landscape around our Chapel at Mannix College.
