OUR APPROACH

We believe we must design buildings that, once built, will then grow. This growth is in the discovery of different uses via purposeful flexibility, and in the evolving landscape in which they are placed. We also believe that good design sustains community, and generates a psychological ownership and care for a place’s condition and use.  We have delivered flexible, enriching, sustainable, human and functional places that work with, and remove friction for their users.

We take a collaborative approach that streamlines the design & build process and minimises headaches for our Clients. We often involve Academics and research based inputs into our process. We start with a well developed stakeholder engagement process that not only clarifies the brief, but minimises resistance to change and maximises enfranchisement and ownership of what is delivered.

Our PRACTICE VALUES

Law Architects specialises in the design and delivery of educational places and spaces where teaching, learning and belonging can thrive.

About 90% of our work is in the education sector, so we are experts in every facet of design for teaching and learning. Our in-depth knowledge and long-standing experience provides us with a deep appreciation of our clients’ needs, both overt and not-yet-identified.

We are propelled into the future by curiosity and a commitment to continuous improvement, which ensures that we remain at the forefront of design-thinking in this sector.

Moreover, our emphasis on the importance of education – and the ongoing benefits of lifelong learning – mean that we apply the lessons we’ve learned here to other sectors including childhood, maternal and community health; ecclesiastical and local government; for the benefit of all of our clients and their wider communities.

We practice what our clients teach, and we are guided by the following five principles:

Collaboration & Inclusivity We delve deeply into the needs of our clients and their communities. This co-design process results in uniquely conceived outcomes that emerge from the genuine and productive relationships we foster with clients, consultants and builders.

Leadership & Innovation We have specialised knowledge of the education sector – backed by experience and expertise – that provides a robust platform for innovation and creativity.  Our aim is to guide our clients to be bold in their decisions and embrace new opportunities for their future.

Enduring Relationships Our focus on empathy and understanding of everybody’s unique perspective is the foundation for longstanding partnerships that build rapport and trust with our clients and collaborators. We see remarkable project outcomes when people come together with a shared vision.

Cultural & Ecological Sustainability We take a wholistic view to minimizing the environmental impact of our projects and maximizing human wellbeing and stewardship. In a time of climate crisis, these vital actions result in better long-term outcomes for our buildings, clients and the planet.

Community Focus As well as meeting the needs of our clients and their project objectives, we strive to design projects that bring added amenity and delight to the surrounding streetscape.  This approach enhances neighbourhood interaction and helps to ensure our projects are supported by the wider community and local council.
