The Woodleigh School in Langwarrin South is a school of independent thought with a particular emphasis on progressive curriculum where teaching and learning takes place within a sustainable natural environment.
The new $0.7M music school facility incorporates two learning areas, offices, rehearsal tuition rooms, with the added amenity that the learning areas open out to an external performance courtyard. Conventional practice and tuition facilities of this type often provide both accoustic, visual and often psychological isolation, where it is not ucommon to not see anyone when coming and going. Research into modern spaces of this type has influenced the design here. While providing accoustic isolation, we have incorporated an integration of internal and external spaces and views. High visibility through several rehearsal and tuition spaces is designed to contribute to a sense of community and shared endeavour in the making of music.
